Guide

  1. In Cake Wallet, open the swap screen and choose the coin you hold as the source and ZEC as the destination.
  2. Pick a quote. NEAR Intents is one of the providers offered.
  3. Send the requested amount from the source wallet, either inside Cake or from another wallet.
  4. ZEC arrives in your Cake Zcash wallet, which shields incoming funds automatically (except very small balances of 0.005 ZEC or less).

Who sees what

Plain facts about who can see this route and who holds your money along the way, with sources. Every route involves some trade-off.

Who can see it
The chain you pay from is public. The swap provider you pick (such as NEAR Intents, ChangeNOW or Trocador) sees the amounts and addresses, and your IP address unless you turn on Cake's Tor-only setting.
Who holds your funds
Depends on the provider. With NEAR Intents, coins wait at a one-time deposit address. Centralized swap services hold your deposit until they send the ZEC.
Identity checks
None from Cake. Some swap providers may ask for ID, especially for larger amounts.
Compliance screening
Depends on the provider. Swaps through NEAR Intents are screened and can be held for review. ChangeNOW's terms allow freezing a swap during checks.

Incidents

  • ZEC in Cake was frozen while Zcash's emergency fork paused the Orchard pool, until the fix went live. cryptotimes.io
  • An exploit of about $3.8 million briefly paused NEAR Intents. It resumed with a few chains still restricted, and affected users are to be compensated in full. crypto.news

Good to know

  • If you're moving from Zodl, create a fresh Zcash wallet in Cake and send your ZEC across, because restoring a Zodl recovery phrase in Cake may not show every balance.
  • Cake added Zcash in January 2026 with shielded addresses as the default and rotating transparent addresses for anyone who needs one.
  • Swap providers may screen transactions, and some can pause a swap for review.
