For businesses

Accept ZEC.

Ways to take Zcash payments in a shop, online or by invoice, and what each one means for privacy, custody and paperwork.

Three ways to accept ZEC

Straight to your wallet

Show a payment request from a shielded wallet. Free, private and nothing to sign up for. Best for low volume and in person.

Your own payment server

Run open-source software that creates invoices and watches for payments. No middleman, but you look after a server.

A payment processor

A company handles checkout and can convert ZEC to cash. Easiest to set up, but it holds funds, charges fees and usually checks your business.

Take payments straight to your wallet

No company in the middle and no fees beyond the network fee. This suits a market stall, a café, freelance work or occasional invoices.

  1. Use a shielded wallet such as Zodl, Zingo or Cake Wallet, and keep a separate wallet for the business.
  2. Create a payment request for the amount, with the order or invoice number in the memo. In Zodl it is Request ZEC, which shows a QR code for your customer to scan.
  3. Wait until the payment shows in your wallet before handing over goods. A new Zcash block comes about every 75 seconds; for larger amounts, wait for a few confirmations.
  4. For bookkeeping, give your accountant a viewing key. It shows payments but can't spend them. A viewing key can't be withdrawn once shared, so share it only with people you trust.

Shielded payment software

Open-source software that creates an invoice with a fresh shielded address for each order and watches for the payment with your viewing key. The ZEC goes straight to your wallet; the software can see payments but never spend them.

  • CipherPay

Accepts shieldedNon-custodialNo business checksYou keep ZEC

A Zcash-only payment processor with checkout pages, invoices, payment links, subscriptions and an iPad point of sale, all paying straight into your shielded wallet.

    Fees
1% of each payment, paid in ZEC, on the hosted service. Nothing if you run it yourself: it is open source.
    Works with
WooCommerce, Shopify, payment links, invoices, an iPad point of sale, and an API with webhooks.
    Good to know
It only stores your viewing key. The hosted service adds its fee as a second recipient in each payment request, which some wallets may refuse (possibly Zodl for iOS), so test a payment from the wallets your customers use. Its Shopify method relies on a feature Shopify stopped running for most stores on 26 August 2026: test it before relying on it. The official site is cipherpay.app; other CipherPay domains are not it.

  • BTCPay Server with the Zcash plugin

Accepts shieldedNon-custodialNo business checksYou keep ZEC

A free, open-source payment server you host yourself, with a community-built plugin that accepts shielded ZEC alongside Bitcoin and other coins.

    Fees
None, apart from the cost of running a server.
    Works with
BTCPay's checkout, invoices, payment buttons, point-of-sale app and WooCommerce plugin.
    Good to know
Best for technical businesses. It installs from a Zcash-specific build of BTCPay last updated in October 2025, and the plugin is listed as tested up to BTCPay 2.3.6. Ironwood support was added to its wallet component in July 2026: send a small test payment end to end before going live. Use an up-to-date wallet such as Zodl or Zingo for the viewing key; YWallet hasn't been updated for Ironwood.

Payment processors

Companies that run checkout for you and can convert ZEC to your own currency. They hold the money for a while, charge a fee, and as far as their documents show accept only transparent ZEC, so payments are public on the blockchain.

  • NOWPayments

    Transparent onlyCustodialZEC or cash

A payment processor for many coins, including ZEC, that can pay out in crypto or convert for you.

    Fees
About 0.5%, or about 1% with conversion, according to reviews. Check its own pricing before signing up.
    Works with
WooCommerce and other shop plugins, invoices, payment links, donations, a web point of sale and an API.
    Good to know
Its point-of-sale guide asks for a "Zcash public address", and ZecHub lists it as transparent only. No identity checks for crypto-only accounts; checks apply for cash payouts and larger volumes. It briefly stopped accepting ZEC in February 2022.

Good to know

  • Shielded payments keep your takings and your customers' payments private. Transparent payments are public on the blockchain, like Bitcoin.
  • ZEC's price moves. If you need a fixed amount in your own currency, price in that currency at the moment of sale, or use a processor that converts for you.
  • Shielded payments don't show who sent them. To give a refund, ask the customer for an address.
  • Software that watches for payments must support Ironwood, Zcash's shielded pool since July 2026. Tools built on zcashd stopped working when it was retired on 18 July 2026.
